SEDATION (Nitrous oxide)
Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. At Casa Dental, we offer two types of sedation to our patients so they can feel less anxious during the procedure.
Nitrous oxide (sometimes called “laughing gas”) is one option your dentist may offer to help make you more comfortable during specific procedures. Nitrous oxide has been used as a sedative in dentistry for over 100 years.
It is used before complicated dental procedures like fillings, cleaning, root canals, implants, and dental surgery, including wisdom teeth extraction. Casa Dental offers this service to all of our patients who are seven years or older. Parents or responsible adults must accompany patients under 18. Most patients can leave the clinic 10 minutes after the procedure is done. Currently, this service is only offered at our Mississauga location.
Depending on the total dose given to a patient, oral sedation can range from minimal. For minimal sedation, you take a pill or liquid. The pill or liquid will make you drowsy, although you will still be awake. In some cases, you may become groggy enough from oral sedation and fall asleep during the procedure. If this happens to you, one of our clinical staff will gently shake your shoulder to awaken you after the procedure is done.
This service is offered at both our locations.
